On the schooner Mira we are aware of our environmental footprint
That's why we sail as soon as possible - and because Mira is a sailing ship!
Mira was built in 1898 and has been afloat ever since. She has been afloat because she has been looked after for more than a century. It is sustainability to look after things that have already been built.
Here are some of the measures we take to operate a sustainable ship:
- The food on board is delivered by the local restaurants at Wilders Plads. This saves us a lot of transport to and from the ship. To avoid food waste, our menu consists of delicious dishes that are part of the restaurants' daily operations unless otherwise requested.
- The majority of our wines are organic.
- Our new carpets are made from ocean plastic waste, and we bought them from our neighbor, Egetæpper. The carpets are produced in Denmark and approved for ships.
We are constantly looking for new, exciting ways to put Mira into play for a sustainable future. Both in the summer, but also throughout the long winter, when the ship is mostly at berth.
That's why we are now looking for partners - interest groups, think tanks, companies and foundations - who need a meeting place and a process that can help them tackle wild, complex and systemic problems, build sustainable visions for the future, and create strong communities and a basis for tomorrow's solutions.
It could be about the marine environment, vulnerable children and young people, mental well-being or the next sustainability strategy.
We will also invite you to conversation salons and other events that show paths to a sustainable and hopeful future for people and nature.
So get in touch with us if you have the next sustainable idea we should work on.
